I’m happy to say that Fake Food Free has transitioned to the Substack Newsletter called Every Corner of the World.

I hope to see you there.

The line was long, but I waited anyway. Everyone else was there for strawberries, which is unbelievable to me. How can you possibly look at a strawberry when golden raspberries are sitting there right next to them?

“You can mix and match,” said the vendor. He was letting me know that in my 3-pack I could mix red raspberries, golden raspberries, and blackberries.

Nope.

All three golden, please.

These berries are in my top 5 of favorite fruits. They taste just about like a red raspberry, but there is just something so unusual about them. Something rare. Something super-short about the season that makes me go crazy for them.

Yep, they are right up there in my top 5 with Rainier cherries. Which I also happened to snag from my favorite farm stand on my way to the market that day.

It had been forever since we’d had sangria, so that afternoon I made us this Golden Sangria using my favorite white and gold fruits of the season.

I used Vina Robles Vermentino for the wine, but you can substitute your favorite white wine.

Golden Sangria

Serves 2 to 4

Ingredients

1/2 bottle white wine, chilled
4 ounces white rum
1 ounce triple sec
1 white peach, pitted and chopped
1 cup golden raspberries
1 cup Rainier cherries, pitted and halved

Preparation

Pour the wine, rum, and triple sec into a small pitcher. Stir well.

Add the fruit. Stir well and refrigerate at least 1 hour before serving. The longer it sits the sweeter it will get as the fruit breaks down.

Enjoy straight or on ice.
