It has been quite a year. The kind of year that you hate to see end, but one that makes you excited to see what is next. Around here we’ve had everything from great travel and fun family visits to gaining an even greater appreciation for health.

On the business side of things, I’ve started working with so many new companies and organizations this year. It’s been enjoyable, challenging, and I like to think it has helped me grow quite a bit.

What better way to celebrate than with a martini!

One great opportunity I’ve had is to work with POM Wonderful and the #CrazyHealthy campaign throughout this year’s pomegranate season. They are such a great team of folks and I happen to adore pomegranates. So yeah, it’s work, but it definitely doesn’t seem like it. Fun would be a better word.

I’m writing content for the blog that will launch early next year so stay tuned. We’re working on posts about all the best things pomegranates have to offer – how they grow, how the juice is made, and of course, cocktails!

Pomegranate juice has a flavor that is a little sweet and a little tart. It is a combination that happens to make some crazy good cocktails. It’s contains no added sugar, colorants or cheap filler juices.

I’m usually not a fruity drink person, but the balance of this Holiday Pomtini makes it the perfect party drink. It’s made with all 100% fruit juices so no high-sugar mixers. The peach schnapps is also a little unexpected for the holidays, but in a very good way.

In addition to this drink, the distinctive flavor of pomegranate juice goes well with everything from gin to bourbon, so consider giving your holiday cocktails a pomegranate twist. These are a few fun ways to incorporate it.

Pomegranate Cosmo: It’s a super simple to swap the cranberry juice in a Cosmopolitan with pomegranate juice. You can add even more variety by using POM Cherry or POM Blueberry juice.

Pomegranate Old-Fashioned: A splash of pomegranate juice makes this cocktail more colorful, and pomegranate goes really well with the orange.

Mulled Wine with Pomegranate: Swap out part of the wine with pomegranate juice (or leave the wine as is and just add the juice).

Pomegranate Sangria: I like holiday sangria better than summer versions. Try one with red wine, brandy and pomegranate juice. Fill the pitcher with seasonal fruits like pomegranate arils, orange slices, cranberries and a few cinnamon sticks.

Pomegranate Gin & Tonic: A splash of pomegranate juice in a gin and tonic gives it a festive color. It’s especially good with an extra twist of lime.

Whether you try one of the suggestions above or this Holiday Pomtini, you are in for a tasty toast. Happy New Year!

Ingredients
  1. 3/4 oz. POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice
  2. 3/4 oz. Peachtree Schnapps
  3. 1 oz. orange vodka
  4. 1 oz. fresh orange juice
  5. 1/4 oz. lemon juice
  6. Equal parts ground cinnamon and granulated sugar for garnish*
  7. Orange slice
  8. Spiraled orange rind for garnish
Instructions
  1. Place the POM juice, schnapps, vodka, orange juice and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker. Add a few cubes of ice. Cover and shake all drink ingredients with ice to chill.
  2. On a small plate, stir together the cinnamon and sugar. Run the orange slice over the rim of a martini glass. Turn the rim of the glass in the cinnamon and sugar to coat it evenly.
  3. Strain the cocktail into the martini glass. Garnish with the spiraled orange rind and serve.
Notes
  1. *I found an equal amount of cinnamon and sugar to be a little too much cinnamon for me. I did 1 part cinnamon to 2 parts sugar.

Yes! I got this recipe from POM and I liked it even more than I thought I would. Something about the peach flavor in it with the pomegranate juice!
