January in Food

February 2, 2011

Last year I started off strong with a commitment to a Project 365 of food where I photographed something edible or drinkable that ate or saw each day. Well, almost each day. I went strong through July, dwindled, tried to pick it back up in October, and then gave up completely.

Despite my inability to finish the full project last year I am trying once again in 2011. It’s fun to look back and see what I’ve eaten and more importantly it forces me to practice with my camera.

Not that I don’t want to practice, but knowing I need to take a food shot forces me to make time. I often let other things get in the way even though I’d rather have my camera in hand. It also allows me to do a bit of a post recap for the month which I hope is fun for you.

I’m not expecting to get a shot every single day, but with 22 photos I didn’t do so badly this past January. It will be easier and easier as the days get longer and the fresh foods get more plentiful.

So here you have the January 2011 recap!

July in Food

August 8, 2010

What a beautiful weekend it was around here! It cooled off Saturday and I had a great 6 mile run around the horse farms. My husband and his coworkers run every Saturday morning and when I was training for my last half marathon, I would join them. Well, not really join them. I’m not nearly as fast so I would just start at the same time and then set off at my own pace.

I hadn’t been in a while, and yesterday was a great reminder of why Kentucky is such a great place to be active. There is usually a fog that settles around the horse barns in the morning and the horses sometimes come up to the fence and run along with you. As I was finishing mile 3, I looked over at the white horse fences and saw that there were cobwebs speckled with dew about every 10 feet. It is amazing how the atmosphere puts you at peace even when you are huffing and puffing to make it up a huge rolling hill.

I’m not sure if I’ve shared it here yet, but I have signed up for my next half. I debated for a long time whether or not I wanted to do a second one this year. I finally decided I needed another goal to shoot for and the discipline that comes along with training so I will be running the Columbus Half in October!

I plant to use some weekend posts to share more about my experiences and discuss the process. I will likely begin to incorporate those posts on Sundays. It will be a break from the food focus for a day and I hope anyone interested will stop by for a comment.

For now, back to food. Can you believe that I completely missed out on posting June in Food from my Project 365 on Flickr? Perhaps you didn’t miss it, but it bothered me all of July. I had done so well with keeping up and then missed a recap. As days rolled by this summer I never got around to posting it.

I decided I didn’t want to end this trend though, so I am picking back up with July. I didn’t manage to get a photo everyday, but I do have about 24 to share with you.

Hope you have a wonderful week!

April in Food

May 7, 2010
My Project 365, Food in 2010, is still going strong. I’ve found I miss a few days here and there simple because I forget, but manage to get a food photo the majority of days each month.

I’ve also been taking a fabulous live photography course, Fundamentals of Digital Photography with John Greengo, from Creative Live out of Seattle. I found out about it via Twitter. It is a free 10 week course, about 2 hours a week and you watch it via live stream on the web. There are about 5,000 enrolled worldwide. Again, it’s FREE, so if you have an interest in checking out the remaining 5 weeks you can register on the site.
I’ve learned so much and I hope you will find that begin to show in my photos. I have a long way to go, but I’m really starting to understand how to fully utilize all the functions and abilities of my DSLR.

So without further delay, here is my April in Food. I was having trouble getting the mosaic to show the graphics larger so I split this month into two sections. Enjoy!

I’m finding that I look forward to the first day of the month so that I can post my Project 365 food recap. It’s been fun to look back each month, and I really think that it is keeping me on my toes with trying new recipes and getting creative. I mean, everyone doesn’t want to see the same photo every day!

I’m thrilled that it is April and we are experiencing true spring weather around here. We will likely hit 80 the end of the week. It will be interesting to see how my food pictures change as more and more fresh produce becomes available.

February in Food

March 3, 2010
We have successfully moved into the new house! I’ve had a minor bump in the kitchen set up so no pictures yet, but they are coming. We have to get some cabinet/counter top shaving done to get the new fridge to fit properly. It is currently in working order, but out in the middle of the kitchen!

I am absolutely loving where we are living! I can buy my pastured meat and eggs from a farm not far from here and I discovered a honey supplier nearby. I’ve got fields and cows in view out the front and back windows, and the quiet is overwhelmingly pleasant. Yet, at the same time, I’m back to (moderately-sized) city life in 30 minutes. It is perfect.

While I plan to take full advantage of this new country life you still can’t take the love for a big city or for travel out of me. So rest assured my future plans are to continue with a balanced blog, just as I strive to maintain a balanced life.

It will be at least a few days before I’m back to cooking something worth posting about, or have the time for writing about a thought provoking perspective. Until then I’ve completed my Project 365 of February in Food. I hope you enjoy the photos and I’ll be back to regular posts soon!

January in Food

February 2, 2010
Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Several things going on at the moment have me lacking time for researching posts and cooking experiments. I’m hoping both time and inspiration will be back to normal in the next couple days.

Until then I thought I would share my January in Food. I joined Kathy from A Good Appetite in a Project 365 for foods in 2010 on Flickr. As you can see, I got started a little late so I’m a bit short, but I’m on track for a full year of food from here on out. It is really fun to look back and see my month in food photos!
