Fresh Fig Recipes

August 21, 2018

Looking for fresh fig recipes? You’ve come to the right place! These are my favorites for using this unique fruit during its short season.

Favorite Fresh Fig Recipes from FakeFoodFree.com

Fig season always goes way too fast for me. One minute, I’m thinking about all the things I could make with them, and the next I can no longer find them at the farmers market.

The point? You have to grab them when you can and be prepared to use them up!

Over the past few years, and I know I’m going to sound like a broken record here, but really since we moved to California, I’ve gotten much more acquainted with the fig. I’ve had the opportunity to use fresh figs in a lot of different recipes.

If you have fig fever, too, these fresh fig recipes may be just what you are looking for. Or maybe they can at least inspire some new ideas of your own.

They are just a few of the ways I’ve managed to use figs in meals and desserts.

I’m sharing some green, along with my favorite St. Patrick’s Day recipes, and travel inspired by one my favorite places — Ireland!

All Things Green. St. Patrick's Day Recipes and Travel at Fake Food Free

I’ve had green on my mind lately. Isn’t it such a beautiful color? I grabbed some green things from around the kitchen last week and took a few fun photos. It got me in the mood for spring and for St. Patrick’s Day!

We’ve been to Ireland a few times now and each visit I get more inspired by the people, the food and the landscape. So when we have a holiday where I can celebrate those things back home, I’m all in.

5 Favorite Lemon Recipes

September 25, 2014

Since moving to California with amazing access to citrus, I love cooking with lemon. These are a few of my favorite lemon recipes.

5 Favorite Lemon Recipes | Fake Food Free

Our backyard is currently filled with the intoxicating aroma of citrus blossoms. It’s the part of the citrus growing process that is second only to the lemons and oranges that come several weeks later. That scent has the power to take you from a bad to a good mood in one swift sniff.

While I wait patiently for new fruit, occasionally sticking my head out the door to breath it in, the lemon tree has been kind enough to produce some stragglers throughout the entire summer. I pulled a few off the tree to photograph last week and it got me in the mood for some of my favorite lemon recipes. These five recipes are from the Fake Food Free archives and worthy of being made again year after year. (Click on the name and it will take you to the recipe.)

7 Pie Recipes for Pie Day!

March 14, 2014

I’m awful at math.

It’s not so much that I can’t solve simple math problems, but more that I don’t trust myself. I’m that person who whips out my phone when the bill arrives at the table so I can use the calculator app to make sure I’ve added the tip correctly. Sure, I can add, but in the distracted state of dinner conversation, I’d rather be safe than embarrassed.

So there is no logical reason why this poor math student would celebrate 3/14 – Pi Day. That is, until the food community added an ‘e’ to the end and converted it to Pie Day.

Now, I’m in.

I’ve made a few sweet and savor pies over the years. Some with classic ingredients, others with whole grains and coconut oil and a few that are specific to countries around the world. In celebration of Pie Day, here are a few of my very favorites. (Click on the name to go to the recipe.)

Peanut Pie from Pie by Ken Haedrich
Borekitas from Hazan Family Favorites (Spinach and Feta Stuffed Pies)
Chocolate Fleur de Sel Caramel Tart from Pie It Forward
Mini Peanut Butter Apple Pies
