January in Food

February 2, 2011

Last year I started off strong with a commitment to a Project 365 of food where I photographed something edible or drinkable that ate or saw each day. Well, almost each day. I went strong through July, dwindled, tried to pick it back up in October, and then gave up completely.

Despite my inability to finish the full project last year I am trying once again in 2011. It’s fun to look back and see what I’ve eaten and more importantly it forces me to practice with my camera.

Not that I don’t want to practice, but knowing I need to take a food shot forces me to make time. I often let other things get in the way even though I’d rather have my camera in hand. It also allows me to do a bit of a post recap for the month which I hope is fun for you.

I’m not expecting to get a shot every single day, but with 22 photos I didn’t do so badly this past January. It will be easier and easier as the days get longer and the fresh foods get more plentiful.

So here you have the January 2011 recap!

That’s a great idea. Not only will it help keep us accountable, but it’s fun to explore what we’re eating and not eating. Good luck with the project in ’11!

Looks like your January was filled with fantastic foods! Sounds like a fun project you’re doing…and I agree, photo taking gets much easier as the fresh produce comes in and the days get longer!

Such a lovely idea, and your photographs are beautiful (as always!). I really like that we get a roundup of your recipes, too! You’ll be doing this every month, I hope?

    February 2, 2010
Sorry for the lack of posts lately. Several things going on at the moment have me lacking time for researching posts and cooking experiments. I’m hoping both time and inspiration will be back to normal in the next couple days.

Until then I thought I would share my January in Food. I joined Kathy from A Good Appetite in a Project 365 for foods in 2010 on Flickr. As you can see, I got started a little late so I’m a bit short, but I’m on track for a full year of food from here on out. It is really fun to look back and see my month in food photos!

Fun to see all the posts in this terrific picture collage!

Wow, that’s exiting, this project means you have to cook and photograph everything for a year?

  • Tangled Noodle February 2, 2010 at 7:46 pm

What a great project! I know a lot of bloggers are participating and it’s been fun to see the photos. Looking forward to more!

  • Lori February 2, 2010 at 7:53 pm

5 Star and TN – Thanks! It’s a lot of fun and I’m loving seeing others photos too.

Anna – Well, not actually cook although I try to every day. It’s really just to photograph one food you made, ate or saw that interests you each day. So some days it will be a recipe I made, others just a beer, coffee or something at the market that caught my attention. Just as long as it’s food related.

sounds like a fun project lori… looking forward to see 365 photos of your daily food!

  • Andrea (Off Her Cork) February 3, 2010 at 10:12 am

Lori, Okay the thing that stuck out to me the most was the Vanilla Porter. LOL! We have some in the fridge but haven’t tried it yet. Did you like it?

Looking at the photos displayed that way is awesome! It looks really cool, like a nutritional collage. 😀

I’m so glad you decided to join me in this!

  • Emily February 3, 2010 at 11:48 am

Love all of those pictures! I love the idea of that project!

  • Lori February 5, 2010 at 5:59 am

TN Emily and Malou – It is a really fun project! I try to get creative and not just photo foods I cook, but random things I eat too.

Andrea – I thought you’d like that. 😉 We got Breckenridge and it was pretty tasty. Once it sat a bit in the glass the vanilla flavor really came out.

kat – I’m so glad you invited people to join. It’s fun!
